How to start journaling for mental health using five types of journaling like Daily Journaling, Visual Journaling, Free Writing Journaling, Gratitude Journaling, and Bullet Journaling

Hi there, Yashvi here! I know being an adult can be tough. Because according to your parents you are still a child but the world starts treating you like a responsible adult. And the whole world opens to you with lots of expectations. Once you start paying attention to those expectations, your brain starts having thoughts like at crazy speeds. That's where journaling comes in - it is been my trusty sidekick in this crazy journey called life!

Let me tell you, journaling is more than just scribbling your deepest thoughts on paper. It is a powerful tool that can help you make sense of the whirlwind of emotions that come with being an adult. Whether you are stressed about college, finding job, dealing with friendship drama, or feeling overwhelmed by all the changes happening in your life, journaling can be your safe heaven. If you are having family drama, please go to expert people like counselors.

Now, I know what you are thinking - "But Yashvi, there are so many types of journaling out there! Where do I even start?" Do not worry, I have got you covered! Here are five journaling styles that have been my go-to's:

  1. Daily Journaling: This is like having a heart-to-heart with your best friend, except the friend is a notebook. Every night before bed, I spill out all the details of my day, from the highs and lows to the random thoughts that pop into my head. It is a great way to process everything that has happened and get it all out of my system.

  2. Visual Journaling: Sometimes, words just are not enough to express what I am feeling. That's when I turn to visual journaling! I doodle, draw or even paste picture and mementos into my journal. It is like creating a colorful, artistic representation of my inner world.

  3. Free Writing Journaling: Have you ever had so many thoughts swirling around in your head that you can't make sense of them? That's where free writing comes in! I set a timer for 10 minutes and just let my pen flow without stopping or editing. It is like a brain dump and it is surprisingly therapeutic.

  4. Gratitude Journaling: Amidst all the craziness of an adult life, it is easy to forget about the little blessings we have. That is why I love gratitude journaling! Every day, I jot down a few things I am grateful for, like my amazing friends, supportive family, or even the delicious pizza I had for dinner. It helps me to stay positive and appreciative, even on tough days.

  5. Bullet Journaling: If you are an organization freak like me, bullet journaling is a game-changer! I use my journal to keep track of my homework assignments, plan out my week, and set goals for myself. It is like having a personal planner, but with added benefit of being able to doodle and express myself creatively.

The best part about journaling is that it is completely personal and customizable. You can mix and match these styles, or even create you own unique way of journaling that works for you. The key is to be consistent and honest with yourself.

So, why not give it a try? Grab a notebook, a pen, and let your thoughts flow freely onto the pages. Who knows, you might just discover a new way to cope with the ups and downs of being an adult - and maybe even learn a thing or two about yourself along the way!
